Investigators from the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to Sacred Heart Church on Shonnard Place on Friday, Jan. 19, after receiving reports of a suspicious suspect removing money from a donation box.
According to police, an investigation into the incident determined that the suspect - later identified as Kevin Madison, 39 - used a metal hook to “fish” $30 from the donation box. Police said that upon arrival at the scene, they identified Madison, who was attempting to flee.
Once apprehended, Madison “became belligerent and kicked the rear door and banged his head against the partition several times,” police said, with a cut visible on his booking photo. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being processed for his arrest.
Following treatment, Madison was charged with petit larceny, possession of burglar’s tools, criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors. He is due back in court on Thursday to answer the charges.
